The written Word of God, according to Christ’s affirmation, is that which brings salvation and eternal life (see also, e.g., James 1:18; I Peter 1:23) because it is the only source of information we have about the Savior. The written Word reveals the living Word. The Lord was, in fact, speaking here of the Old Testament Scriptures, for there was nothing else at that time. These scriptures, however, are replete with testimonies of the coming Christ.
