Reflecting on Five Years of the ICR Discovery Center

Since its grand opening on September 2, 2019, the ICR Discovery Center has encouraged thousands of visitors from all over the world with science that proclaims Scripture. Thursday, September 5, the Institute for Creation Research and the Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce hosted a special event to both welcome the Discovery Center into the chamber and celebrate its five-year anniversary in the North Texas community.

Chamber ambassadors, local business and school district representatives, ICR supporters, and others gathered at the museum to recognize this significant milestone. The introductory speech was given by Lauren Campbell, chamber director of investor relations and sales, and was followed by remarks from ICR President Dr. Randy Guliuzza and ICR Discovery Center Director Chris Kinman.

“From its inception, this museum was envisioned as an exemplary science venue that would present the overwhelming evidences for biblical authority and accuracy,” Kinman said. “We look forward to many more years of inspiring wonder and curiosity about the world around us and also the Creator, the Lord Jesus.”

The event concluded with the presentation of a plaque gifted by the chamber along with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. After the scheduled program, light refreshments were served while many attendees took the opportunity to network and earn door prizes. Chamber members were also given free admission into the museum.

Over the last five years the Discovery Center has reached attendance of more than 150,000, representing guests from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. The museum’s state-of-the-art facility, which includes a current research exhibit, interactive displays, and more, exists to demonstrate how the Bible, not the evolutionary narrative, provides the best scientific explanation of origins.

“The last few years have been evidence that taking what [conventional] scientists say is fraught with risk,” said General Mark Shackelford, chairman of ICR’s board of trustees. When studying the facts, including the research from ICR’s team of Ph.D. scientists, there’s “very solid evidence for creation by design.”

While ICR’s museum has touched the lives of many, from families to school groups and others, its ministry wouldn’t be possible without dedicated staff members and faithful volunteers who make sure that each visitor feels welcomed and, above all, hears the gospel.

Ultimately, the hope for the Discovery Center is that people would “see the wisdom, power, and genius of the Lord Jesus Christ,” said Dr. Guliuzza, and realize that God’s Word is to be taken seriously in everything it says—science included.

“Very rarely do you get a chance to see well-articulated differing positions on things, and [the] Discovery Center offers that,” Dr. Guliuzza said. So, “come, have an open mind, and be curious and dig in.”

We’re grateful to the Lord for His provision with the ICR Discovery Center. Here’s to five years of boldly declaring Scripture-affirming science in our Dallas museum. May God be continually glorified through our ministry and lead others toward the Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ.
