offence of the cross
Galatians 5:11
5:11 offence of the cross. The very identification of Christians with the doctrine of salvation solely through the death of Christ is offensive to the man who is trusting in his religious or moral works to justify him before God. True Christians can never be at ease with the unsaved world. They all too often tend to accommodate the current trends in worldly thinking and behavior, in order to avoid being considered “different” from the world. The cross does, indeed, give offense to the natural man, because it demonstrates God’s judgment on their sins. Instead of being offended, however, we should “glory…in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world” (Galatians 6:14).
