He is evidently called a “prince” rather than king because Nebuchadnezzar still recognized Jehoiachin as king of Judah even after taking him captive to Babylon (II Kings 25:27). Zedekiah did attempt to escape the city in just the manner acted out by Ezekiel (Jeremiah 39:4).
