wells of salvation
Isaiah 12:3
12:3 wells of salvation. The Hebrew word for “wells” is more often translated “fountains,” denoting flowing springs of water that never run dry. The promise will be literally fulfilled for Israel “in that day” when the Lord returns to reign “in the midst of thee” (Isaiah 12:4,6). Its first use, however, was when “the fountains of the great deep [were] broken up” to bring the great Flood on the earth (Genesis 7:11). See John 4:6-14, with note on verse 14.
