14:8 carcase of the lion. The event has no naturalistic explanation. Samson was given supernatural strength because the Lord “sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel” (Judges 14:4). The end result of all these exploits of Samson would be the freeing of Israel from Philistine domination. After this particular victory, Samson “judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years (Judges 15:20).
