48:2 city of the great King. Jerusalem was called “the city of the great King” by the Lord Jesus (Matthew 5:35). God Himself is, of course, the “great King over all the earth” (Psalm 47:2,7), and Jerusalem is the earthly “city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High” (Psalm 46:4). Thus Psalms 46, 47, 48 have a common theme.
