New Defender's Study Bible Notes
7:1 set up the tabernacle. Here the account looks back to Exodus 40:17, when “the tabernacle was reared up.” It was at that time that the twelve princes of the respective tribes brought their generous offerings for the service of the tabernacle, one each day.
7:13 his offering. The offering consisted of eight items and is described twelve times in identical terms. The Lord thereby assures all his people that He knows each individual and acknowledges and appreciates every individual gift.
7:89 the mercy seat. See Exodus 25:22; 33:9,11. The blood of atonement was to be sprinkled upon the mercy seat (Leviticus 16:14,15), where God’s presence was manifested between the two cherubim. Note also Romans 3:25, where “propitiation” (Greek hilasterion), speaking of the atoning blood of Christ, also means “mercy seat.”
